Need a Summer Job?
The Youth Job Corps (YJC) program is designed for youth 14-21 who are interested in career exploration and summer employment. The jobs created through the YJC provide needed community services during the summer months with work sites scattered throughout the City. Qualified candidates for this program will have the opportunity to work in a variety of industries.
- All applicants must be residents of Saint Paul
- Youth ages 14-21 are eligible to apply
- Youth who are 13 may also apply if they will turn 14 by June 14, 2010
- Household income must be at or below 80% of the metro median income
- Applying to the YJC does not guarantee you employment
- Most jobs begin June 14, 2010 and end September 3, 2010

Counseling Office Updates Semester II
Seniors- FAFSA Information
FAFSA Information- if your student is planning to start college in fall of 2010 they need to fill out a FREE Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be completed online after January 1, 2010 at www.fafsa.gov. Students and their parents should complete their 2009 income tax returns prior to completing the FAFSA. Before filling out the FAFSA students must have the following documents:
- Social Security Number for student and parent(s)
- 2009 W-2 Forms for student and parent(s)
- 2009 Federal Income Tax Return for student and parent(s)
Minnesota College Goal Sunday Event Information- If you would like to attend a workshop that provides financial aid counselors to assist your family in filling out the FAFSA and an opportunity to enter your student for a $500.00 scholarship, please attend a MN College Goal Sunday event. Visit www.mncollegegoalsunday.org for locations and times.
Juniors- ACT Information
ACT Information- Most four-year colleges and universities require some standardized test in order to apply. Students should take the ACT test if they are considering applying to a four year postsecondary institution. Students need to register to take the ACT test at http://www.actstudent.org
It costs $32.00 + $15.00 for a writing portion. ACT test fee waivers are available for students who qualify and can be obtained in the counseling office. The next ACT test date is April 10th and any junior who wants to apply to a four year postsecondary institution MUST register by March 5th.

Earning College Credit While in High School
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Information- PSEO allows Minnesota high school juniors and seniors to take courses at a college at NO COST! Students can earn high school AND college credit for the same class. If your high school sophomore or junior is interested in joining PSEO during the 2010-2011 school year they need to start applying. Please have your student visit the counseling office or you can call (651) 776-5151 x268 for more information.
